L’orme et le fusain

Ulmus in ripa fluminis nata, siler sibi proximum irridebat ut debile et invalidum quod ad omnem vel levissimum undarum impetum flecteretur, suam autem firmitatem et robur magnificis extollebat at verbis quod multos annos assiduos amnis impetus inconcussa pertulerat.
Un orme, né sur la rive d’un fleuve, se moquait d’un fusain très proche de lui, comme étant faible et sans force parce qu’il se courbait devant toute la poussée des vagues même très léger, mais il vantait sa propre solidité et sa propre résistance avec des magnifiques paroles qu’il avait bien supporté pendant de nombreuses années les poussées continues du fleuve restant inébranlable.

Cette fable signifie que ceux qui cèdent aux plus puissants (à ceux qui sont puissants) sont plus sages que ceux qui voulant leur résister sont honteusement vaincus.
